This is possibly one of my favorite movie quotes ever. Pretty Woman circa 1990. This quote comes to mind whenever I:
a) think of Hollywood and/or Julia Roberts/Richard Gere and
b) whenever I start planning/thinking about my goals in life.
Since I’ve been on this life planning/changing kick lately, and am in the midst of some soul searching and personal goal setting, I thought I’d work it all out through my blog in hope of motivating/inspiring others to take the same time to reflect on their lives… and really to help hold myself accountable. (No, I don’t just get a kick out of posting my issues out in cyberland for all to see). Even if they’re miniscule like making dinner for yourself at home twice a week or actually loading, running and unloading the dishwasher all in one night, setting goals is important. It not only gives you something to aim for, but it can provide motivation, persistence and desire.

So, here we go – one FabandFincly Sav Girl’s list of things to do/achieve/accomplish and so on:
1) Ummm… hello GMAT… nice to see you.. again. I swear I’m going to get around to taking it before year end. Really. What is the point in me picking up the book and putting it back down once every few months? Wasted time and brain cells.
2) Put the credit cards on lock down…orr.. let’s say a slow down. Small shopping trips once every two weeks. (Seriously – if you know me, this is a huge step). Plus I’m really going to need to curb the spending for my May 2010 Europe trip.
3) I will go to spin. I will go to spin. I will go to spin. Nuff said.
4) Teach my terror of a miniature schnauzer some manners. Really, to me he =’s sweet and adorable. To everyone else he =’s a terror. This should really be at the top of my list. My dog is like a small child on a sugar high… allll dayyy long.
5) Work on phasing fish out of my diet. Sigh. I still have a hard time imagining my life without sushi… but if I’m going to be all “animal rights” about it… then fish have feelings too.
6) In line with # 5, learn how to cook some yummy vegetarian dishes.
7) Spruce up www.fabandfinanciallysav.com and show it the love and attention it deserves.
8) Yeah… I’m just going to go ahead and give myself a little pep talk here. Please move on to #9 if watching one talk to themselves makes you feel uncomfortable in any way….
You know that idea that you’ve been talking about for months? The one that you keep putting off? Well get on it and set some mini deadlines. Last I checked you were the one preaching to people about “making it happen” and such. Soo… go on, make it happen!
9) We are Fam-ily! So, I’m totally guilty of neglecting my family lately. Think it’s time I did a little re-connecting.
10) Keep in mind that no one is going to look after me as well as I do. Stand up for what I believe, do what I think is right and of course, stick up for myself when people try to take advantage.
There are obviously a gazillion more things I actually want to do in my life (i.e. travel consistently, become fluent in Italian, max out my 401(k) year after year… ) you know, typical twenty something stuff. However, starting small is the way to go. Having a plan, setting small goals and staying positive will ultimately get me (and you) to where we want to be. So, go on.. answer the question – “What’s your dream?”

I love that movie!! I immediately saw the whole scene in my mind when I read that line :) This post inspires me to sit down and figure out a next steps/goal list for myself, thanks friend :)
